We follow the foundation stage curriculum, aimed at children aged three years to the end of the reception year at school. Early learning goals are part of the foundation stage and describe what most children are expected to achieve by the end of the reception year. These are organized into six areas:

- Communication, language and literacy
- Mathematics
- Personal and social development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development

Every goal is broken down into a series of developmental stepping-stones which describe the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that children need to learn during the foundation stage in order to achieve the early learning goals.

Our long term plan outlines the theme for each half term over a three year period, including festivals and celebrations. Mid term, we divide the term’s theme into the six areas of learning, each of which has a relevant focus and the staff note ideas for activities. Our weekly plans cover the activities for each day - the developmental stepping-stones.

We continually monitor children's progress by making ongoing observations and keep parents informed of their child's achievements.  The planning process is very flexible allowing us to incorporate unexpected events and  make changes based on our evaluation of the children’s progress.

Children will be introduced to many new experiences.  We talk to them about other countries and cultures, the natural world, about themselves and each other.  Themes are often brought to life when we have a visitor (the police, postman, nurse etc.).  We learn about their roles and how they help us.  Pets often come to visit and we have had a selection of mini beasts, brought in to fascinate the children.

We enjoy outings to local farms, Brinsbury College or nature walks.  These are always well supervised and our Outings Policy strictly adhered to, to ensure the safety of the children.

Books are always available for children to read during sessions.
